Walking through San Francisco’s Chinatown is like stepping into a different world. A good friend allowed me to work from her photo, Rainy Day in Chinatown (janeluriephotography.wordpress.com). The deeper I worked into the painting, the more I appreciated what a unique moment she had captured. When I asked her about it, she said she has returned to that location many times and never seen anything again that approaches what she captured that day.

It’s TIGER!!!
Although Tiger is a medium-sized dog, his personality is larger than life. I worked from a photo his parents took when Tiger was racing towards them across a meadow.
Low Country Scene

If you take the backroads that run through South Carolina’s Sea Islands, you just might come across a scene like this. The weaving of sweetgrass baskets goes back hundreds of years.
I worked from a photo taken by Jane Lurie. You can see her work at janeluriephotography.wordpress.com.
Refugee of the Heart
During the four years I spent in Hong Kong, I met individuals who inspired me to write this historical novel.
My book combines romance with intrigue to create a compelling tale of love and loss in early twentieth-century China. War will ravage Asia, and Wei-chen and Hui-lan could be caught in the cross fire.

Scorpio at Dawn

A dear friend allowed me to paint from her beautiful photo of Scorpio. The photo was taken at dawn on Kiawah Island, a barrier island on South Carolina’s coast.
Inle Lake, Myanmar

Myanmar is an interesting country with fascinating sites and sub-cultures. Inle Lake, which is famous for its floating villages and gardens, is ringed by pagodas and monasteries. The Intha people base their communities entirely on the water. In an effort to preserve this unique culture, UNESCO has declared Inle a biosphere reserve.
Going-to-the Sun Road

Going-to-the Sun Road is a narrow, two-lane road that runs from the east entrance to the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Its winding hairpin turns are not for the faint of heart. The highest point on the 50-mile road is Logan Pass. At this point there’s a steep hiking trail to a beautiful alpine meadow that’s inhabited by bighorn sheep and mountain goats.
Hvar, Croatia

Like a string of pearls, beautiful islands trace the Croatian coastline. Hvar, with its gorgeous harbor and lavender-covered hills, is incredibly charming.
Luang Prabang, Laos

A dear friend allowed me to do a painting from her remarkable photo of three Buddhist monks. With street scenes like this, Luang Prabang – the old capitol of Laos – feels as if you’re stepping back in time.
Sparrow Hawk

Dear Minnesota friends live in the St. Croix River valley, one of America’s most scenic waterways. This sparrow hawk has adopted their backyard as one of his favorite haunts.
