When my friend Gail Lee was traveling in Viet Nam 20 years ago, she captured a remarkable market scene. I painted the scene in watercolor years ago and just finished this rendering in oil.

When you wander the side streets of Santa Fe, you turn a corner and find images like this. I painted this scene from a photo I took a year ago. The newly opened leaves, the delicate April air and the soft breezes were enchanting. Perhaps going from sea level to an altitude of 7,100 caused that reaction, but I prefer to think it was because I was in New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment.
Although Tiger is a medium-sized dog, his personality is larger than life. I worked from a photo his parents took when Tiger was racing towards them across a meadow.

If you take the backroads that run through South Carolina’s Sea Islands, you just might come across a scene like this. The weaving of sweetgrass baskets goes back hundreds of years.
I worked from a photo taken by Jane Lurie. You can see her work at janeluriephotography.wordpress.com.

Myanmar is an interesting country with fascinating sites and sub-cultures. Inle Lake, which is famous for its floating villages and gardens, is ringed by pagodas and monasteries. The Intha people base their communities entirely on the water. In an effort to preserve this unique culture, UNESCO has declared Inle a biosphere reserve.

I painted this still life a few years ago. In my opinion, radishes don’t taste delicious but their colors are delicious to the eye.

Going-to-the Sun Road is a narrow, two-lane road that runs from the east entrance to the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Its winding hairpin turns are not for the faint of heart. The highest point on the 50-mile road is Logan Pass. At this point there’s a steep hiking trail to a beautiful alpine meadow that’s inhabited by bighorn sheep and mountain goats.

Like a string of pearls, beautiful islands trace the Croatian coastline. Hvar, with its gorgeous harbor and lavender-covered hills, is incredibly charming.
