A talented photographer, who is also a close friend, allowed me to work from a photo she captured on St. Helena Island. This island is one of the barrier islands that trace our southeast coast. The West African tradition of coiled basket making came to South Carolina in the 1700s. Over time the functional designs of the early baskets have evolved into intricate works of art.
Jane, Your post makes me smile. A great memory of our day together and your interpretation of the photo is superb. The colors and light are wonderful. I love to collaborate with you.
